GM recalled 114,000 units last July over concerns the vehicles may not meet regulatory and emissions standards. The company earlier halted production and sales of Tavera models supposed to conform to the BS IV and BS III standards.

Subsequent internal GM investigations led to the sacking of a considerable number of GM engineers and managers in both India and the US. GM later had to recall diesel versions of the smaller Sail model, after earlier stopping production of that line as well.

GM India vice president, P Balendran, said: “GM India has already received BS III 7, 8, 9 and 10 seat type approvals and production has also started. BS IV approval is under process and expected any time now and we will start production soon.”
