GM launched the Chevrolet Aveo sedan in India this week, as it seeks to expand its share of the Indian car market, according to Reuters.

A hatchback Aveo and the Opra sportback will be added later this year. Rajeev Chaba, president and managing director of GM India, also told a press conference that the company is committed to bringing in a minicar in the form of the Chevrolet Spark.
All three cars will be assembled at GM’s plant Halol, in the state of Gujarat. GM currently produces the Tavera, Optra sedan, Corsa and Corsa Sail. The [GM-Daewoo Matiz-based] Spark could also be built here, although according to Reuters, GM could consider building a new plant.
Last year the company abandoned a bid to purchase Daewoo’s car plant in India.
The Aveo will retail at between 555,000 rupees (US$12,500) and 685,000 rupees ($15,428), cheaper than the Ford Fiesta and the Honda City sedan.
