General Motors India has announced organisational changes, creating new management positions as part of its “long-term growth commitment to the Indian market”, according to president and managing director Arvind Saxena.

GM Uzbekistan president and managing director Kaher Kazem has been named to the new position of chief operating officer, effective 1 August. He’ll manage the industrial side of GM India’s business.

Kazem joined Holden in Australia in 1995 as a senior engineer. He later held several management roles at Holden’s manufacturing operations. In 2009, he was appointed vice president of manufacturing and quality for GM Thailand/ASEAN and has run GM Uzbekistan since 2012.

Hardeep Singh Brar has been vice president of sales – a new post – since 1 July.

Previously, he was with Volkswagen Group Sales India since 2012 as head of network and dealer development. He worked earlier at Maruti Suzuki India, from 1995, most recently as general manager of institutional and rural sales.

Jack Uppal will be vice president of marketing and customer experience from 1 August.

In his current position since 2013, Uppal has been assisting GM India executive vice president and president Stefan Jacoby. Since joining GM Canada in 2001, he has held senior posts in sales, marketing, customer care, aftersales and network development in both Canada and the Middle East.

All new appointees report to Saxena and will be based at the company’s Gurgaon headquarters with the exception of Kazem who will work from the Talegaon factory.

Rajesh Singh, head of vehicle sales, service and marketing, has resigned, effective 1 August.
