Ford’s Indian unit on Thursday confirmed a small car launch by 2010 and a new engine-making unit.

“Small car segment holds 75% in Indian market and when we launch the small car that’s when the real volumes will come in,” Ford India managing director and president Michael Boneham told the Economic Times of India at the launch of some additional Fiesta models.

He also told the paper the new engine to be set up in 2009-10, with capacity of 250,000 units a year would “fulfill the entire domestic demand and will also cater to the needs for Ford in the Asia Pacific region.”
