to initially bring in the Mondeo through the CBU [Completely Built Up] route and then decide later. The decision to move to CKD would be driven by volume rather than time. We would take that decision based on the growth of the market and the acceptance of the vehicle.”

The report adds that ‘although the FIPB approval for the [Mondeo] CBU programme is still pending, Friedman is confident the green signal will come through.’
Friedman added, “We opted for a CBU programme because this is a top-end product with very small volumes and this way we can bring the latest product to India sooner.”
Indian Mondeo sales are likely to be concentrated in India’s big cities where there are signs that the ‘D’ segment – at the top end of the Indian market spectrum – has good growth potential.
