Total automobile sales in India dropped 4.7% year on year during the fiscal year 2007-08 to 9,648,105 units from 10,123,988 units.
Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) figures cited by The Hindu said domestic passenger car sales rose 11.79% in 2007-08 to 1,203,531 units from 1,076,582.
Total two-wheeler sales slipped 7.92% to 7,248,600 units, compared to 7,872,334 units in the last year.
Commercial vehicle sales increased 4.07% to 486,817 units from 467,765 units for the year, SIAM said.
