BMW India will launch the 1 Series, assembled in Chennai from CKD packs, on 3 September with petrol and diesel engine options.
The 1997cc diesel’s 143bhp gives it an edge over Mercedes’ A180 CDI, according to Autocar India while the 136bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine is shared with the Mini Cooper and Cooper S.
