“In this market, there’s a lot of potential that we will definitely exploit it,” said Joerg Hofmann, head of sales for Audi’s Asia-Pacific operations.

Audi will kick off its Indian presence with a dealer in New Delhi and one in the commercial centre of Mumbai (Bombay). The company expects to add more in the coming months, Audi spokesman Juergen De Graeve told Dow Jones.

Audi expects the Indian premium car market to more than double by 2008 to 12,000-14,000 cars from some 5,000 now, spokesman Juergen De Graeve said.

Audi expects to sell about 1,000 cars in India over the next five years.

Audi will enter the Indian market with its TT roadster and allroad quattro, four-wheel drive station wagon. Later this year, the company will add the A6 to its Indian range.
