He said “China and India have comparable, not similar, dynamics” and, by 2020, he expected the Audi sales in India to increase 10 times to 50,000 vehicles.
Although Audi does make smaller models, Perschke said the brand has adopted a ‘top-down’ strategy in India, launching high priced vehicles before coming out with smaller models.
He added Audi plans to increase its dealer network in India to 25 by the end of this year from 18 now. In the first quarter of this year, it sold 2,269 cars, a 41% increase over the 1,611 vehicles sold in the same period last year.
