American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings has announced the grand opening of its Chennai Manufacturing Facility (CHMF) in the industrial park of Mahindra World City in southeastern India.

CHMF plant manager Cliff Owens oversees the factory making engineered driveline products for the region. Products include a line of front and rear axles for commercial vehicles.

“We are extremely pleased to celebrate the grand opening of AAM’s third regional manufacturing operation in India,” said AAM worldwide operations head John Bellanti. “[It will increase] AAM’s global expansion in emerging markets.”

“Profitable growth in India is a key component of AAM’s global business strategy,” said AAM India managing director Anand Ganguly.  “[The factory] reflects AAM’s commitment to India while allowing us to provide advanced-technology products for current and potential new customers throughout the region. The facility is strategically located close to our OEM customers.”
