Hyundai Wia Corporation, the engine manufacturing affiliate of the Hyundai Motor Group, began construction of a new engine plant in the Russian city of St Petersburg this week.
The plant, first announced last October, will have an annual production capacity of 240,000 units a year.
It will supply 1.3- and 1.6-litre Alpha petrol engines to HMG plants in Russia and elsewhere in Europe.
A total of RUB21bn (US$295m) will be invested in the plant which is scheduled to be completed by October 2021.
It will be Hyundai Wia's fifth production facility worldwide and will lift the company's annual engine production capacity to 2m units.
Hyundai Wia currently has two plants in South Korea, one in China and one in Mexico, producing engines for Hyundai and Kia brand vehicles.
