Hyundai Mobis has opened an auto parts design research centre called the 'Design Model Workshop' to bolster its 'design competitiveness'.
The new facility includes a clay model maker and powder-based 3D printer, the company said. It hopes to design auto parts that can be more easily integrated with OEM design engineering.

"We believe Hyundai Mobis will gain an upper hand in competition against other global auto parts makers by securing better product design and quality," the company said in a statement.
Hyundai Mobis says it has invested some 3 billion won in the centre that sits on 430 square meters of land in its research centre in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
Hyundai Mobis says that creating parts at the new centre will involve designers at the centre starting with a model of the vehicle. This is expected to enhance product quality as well as the work environment for designers who had previously used computer-based processes, Hyundai Mobis maintains.
