The extended memorandum of understanding (MoU) centres on building out hydrogen supply chains for mobility applications and related infrastructure.

Hyundai Motor Group energy & hydrogen business division head Ken Ramirez said: “Hyundai Motor Group is proud to deepen its collaboration with Air Liquide to realise our shared vision of a hydrogen-powered future.

“Together, we are building a robust hydrogen value chain, from production to utilisation, with the aim of making hydrogen a practical and sustainable solution for global energy challenges.”

The companies aim to advance commercial deployment of fuel cell vehicles, with a particular emphasis on heavy-duty transport and public transit fleets.

Under the framework, Air Liquide will provide hydrogen technology know-how, while Hyundai will lead on mobility side.

Both companies will continue in their roles as co-chairs of the Hydrogen Council, working on cross-border collaboration, industry standards and policy engagement.

The partnership has already delivered projects in South Korea, where more than 2,000 hydrogen-powered buses and 37,000 fuel cell passenger vehicles have been put on the road so far.

The firms have also jointly developed advanced refuelling facilities through the Hynet and Kohygen initiatives.

Air Liquide has opened what it describes as the country’s largest 450-bar filling centre in Daesan, designed to support rising demand.

Air Liquide electronics and hydrogen innovation vice president Armelle Levieux said: “We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with Hyundai Motor Group. Collaborations like this between leaders across the value chain are essential to building the hydrogen economy.

“The progress we’ve made in Korea highlights what’s possible when industry leaders work together for a sustainable future.”
