New car and light commercial vehicle sales in Hungary fell 64% to 5,297 in May from the same month a year earlier, the steepest drop ever, reported the business daily Napi Gazdasag.

Gabor Gyozo, chairman of the Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers told the newspaper that sales in January-May period were about 50% down on the same period a year earlier, Sales are expected to fall even further in July-August, but a correction could be seen in October-November, he added.
About 85,000 cars and 15,000-20,000 vans are expected to be sold this year, he said.
Last year, new car sales fell 10 percent to 158,600 according to the Association’s data.
