The deadline for submitting tender offers is 8 May. Offers are to be assessed by 7 June with the possibility of a 15-day extension. The contract on land use is expected to be signed on 9 July.

The report noted that Audi recently announced an almost EUR1bn investment at its base in Gyor, north west Hungary due to go on line in the second half of 2013. Press reports have suggested the government is in talks with the company on building logistics capacity for the expansion at the port of Gönyu, rather than at the base in Gyor.

Thomas Faustmann, who heads Audi’s unit in Hungary, said early in March that Gönyu had “a good chance” of becoming the site of the company’s new logistics base.

Government commissioner for foreign trade and investment Zsolt Becsey said at the end of February that the government would “ensure all conditions” for the base’s construction in Gönyu, the report added.
