Jin Yuzhi, CEO of Huawei’s Intelligent Automotive Solution (IAS) business unit, said: “2024 will be the first year for mass commercialisation of smart driving and the cumulative number of cars on road equipping with the Huawei self-driving system will top 500,000 by the year-end,” Reuters reports.

Qiankun will empower intelligence in the driving chassis, audio and driver’s seat, he added.

Huawei’s smart car unit was launched in 2019, with ambitions of becoming the equivalent to German auto supplier Bosch, but for intelligent EVs.

Huawei said last November that the unit would be spun off into a new joint company which would receive the unit’s core technologies and resources and take investment from partners such as car maker Changan Auto, which would own up to 40%.

In a release, it said: “The new company will […] work with partners to promote innovation and leadership in smart car technology and promote the prosperity and development of the automotive industry.”

In January this year, Shenzhen Yinwang Intelligent Technology was established, encompassing Huawei’s autonomous driving and connected technology operations.
