Porsche wants to boost sales in China.

In the 2004/05 fiscal year ended July 31, 526 Porsche vehicles were delivered in China – up 109% on the previous year.

In the current 2005/06 fiscal year, the sportscar maker is setting its sights on a new delivery record of 1,350 sold units. Including the former British crown colony Hong Kong, which returned to China’s control in 1997, Porsche wants to raise its sales to 1,800 units (previous year: 1,090 units) by the end of the fiscal year.

Growth will once again be driven by the Cayenne SUV, which has already accounted for two thirds of sales in 2004/05.

“We have every reason to look optimistically towards the future in this region. Although these markets are dominated by limousines in the luxury segment, Porsche not only succeeded in increasing sales of the Cayenne, but also in boosting sport car sales. Furthermore, we also expect the new all-wheel versions of the 911 Carrera and the Cayman S to further stimulate growth substantially in China and Hong Kong,” said Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking said at an event to mark the 50-year anniversary of local importer Jebsen & Co.
