Honda Malaysia plans to introduce four new models this year to help lift domestic sales to over 100,000 units, according to CEO Katsuto Hayashi.
Honda was Malaysia's second-best selling vehicle brand last year, behind only national car-maker Perodua, with 91,830 sales – claiming a 16% share of the total vehicle market.
The Japanese automaker is targeting a 10% sales rise this year in a market widely expected to expand by just 1-2%. The brand has strong momentum behind it, following the launch of the H-RV in 2015 and the new generation Civic and Accord sedan models last year.
Katsuto Hayashi said he expects overall market sentiment to improve across South-east Asia this year and forecasts total vehicle sales in Malaysia to rise to around 600,000 units, from 580,000 units in 2016.
Last month the company introduced the new BRV compact MPV in this market, with the new generation Freed and CRV models expected to follow later in the year.
