Honda of America Manufacturing’s original US car factory at Marysville, Ohio, has built its 20 millionth vehicle.

Milestone car was a 2020 Platinum White Pearl Accord Hybrid.

Marysville opened in 1982, making the second generation Accord and the complex has since expanded to include the East Liberty auto plant and the Performance Manufacturing Center which makes the NS-X.

Marysville, with two production lines, is Honda’s largest vehicle factory in the US. East Liberty opened in 1989 and Acura NSX manufacturing started in 2016.

Honda also builds engines and transmissions in Ohio at the Anna Engine Plant and Honda Transmission Manufacturing of America.

Honda actually began US manufacturing with motorcycles, investing US$35m to build the Gold Wing tourer in Marysville in 1979.

The 20 million vehicles built in Ohio account for nearly 75% of the automaker’s total US automobile production since 1982:

  • Marysville: 13,886,744
  • East Liberty: 6,110,582
  • Performance Manufacturing Center: 2,674

Total US investment exceeds $21bn, including other automobile plants in Alabama and Indiana.

Honda has now produced 27.3m cars and light trucks in the US.
