General Motors (GM) has halted production at its pickup-truck plant in Silao, Mexico, for a few weeks, which is expected to impact the output of its top-selling vehicles, as reported by Reuters.
The pause in operations was first reported by individuals familiar with the situation and later confirmed by the company.

The Silao facility, responsible for assembling the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, experienced a shutdown during the first two weeks of this month.
Additional downtime is scheduled for the weeks commencing 4 August and 11 August, although the company did not verify the exact dates.
GM said: “Scheduled down weeks at GM Silao are part of a standard operating process focused on optimizing production at our manufacturing complex.”
These models are said to be the company’s leading sellers in the US market and significant contributors to GM’s profitability.
Besides Silao, the company also manufactures the Silverado and Sierra at plants located in Fort Wayne, Indiana; Flint, Michigan; and Ontario, Canada.
Most of the company’s factories in the US were also said to be inoperative last week as part of a down week for the 4th July holiday.
In the first half (H1) of the year, GM reported sales of 278,599 Silverado trucks, marking a 2% increase from the previous year.
Sierra truck sales reached 166,409 units, a significant 12% rise from the H1 of 2024.
Recently, the automotive sector has faced challenges due to the trade tensions instigated by US President Donald Trump, which have led to disruptions in supply chains and factory operations for automakers and parts suppliers.
The industry is said to have been adapting to the situation, with some companies altering their production strategies to lessen the impact of tariffs on imported vehicles and parts.
Earlier this month, GM reported a 7% increase in US sales for the second quarter of 2025, contributing to a 12% growth in the first half of the year.
