General Motors is looking to build a second battery factory in the United States with South Korean joint venture partner LG Chem, Reuters cited a Wall Street Journal report as saying on Thursday (4 March).

The companies are close to completing a decision to locate the plant in Tennessee, the reports said. The WSJ cited unnamed sources “familiar with the matter”.

The two companies are currently building a US$2.3bn battery plant in northeast Ohio which is expected to open next year and eventually supply enough batteries to power hundreds of thousands of vehicles annually.
