Transmissions specialist ZF Friedrichshafen AG has said that it will reorganise itself into four new divisions from the start of 2011. It describes the move as an alignment of its business activities to ‘better meet the requirements of the market and the customers’.

“The historically grown ZF structure no longer lives up to our customers’ requirements,” according  to ZF CEO Hans-Georg Härter.

“ZF products for one field of competence, such as Car Driveline Technology or Car Chassis Technology are currently distributed across several divisions and business units,” says Mr Härter.

“This means that our customers are negotiating with several ZF employees instead of having just one contact – this is something we will change to make it more customer-friendly and thus more efficient.”

In the future, there will be four divisions in the ZF Group (rather than the current five), which will be aligned consistently with the corresponding product and market situation and the key customers’ basic structures. The previous divisions and business units will be allocated to the four new divisions: Powertrain Technology, Chassis Technology, Commercial Vehicle Technology, and Industrial Technology.

ZF said that the majority of the German companies will be merged with the ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

The joint venture ZF Lenksysteme, where Robert Bosch GmbH and ZF Friedrichshafen AG hold half of the shares each, will remain unchanged.
