Volkswagen Group on Friday said it delivered 5.73m vehicles, up 1%, worldwide in the first 11 months of this year.

“The group therefore ranks among the few automakers this year who have matched or even slightly exceeded last year’s delivery figures,” VW said in a statement, aknowledging it could not “entirely escape the impact of the continuing dramatic distortions on the world market”.

Last month’s sales of 447,000 vehicles were down 16.5% year on year in a global market off 24.5%.

In Brazil, the group delivered 591,800 vehicles from January to November, an increase of 11.9%. In China, growth was 10.1% to 931,100 units. There was also growth in Russia, where deliveries rose 61.6% to 118,300 units, and India, where deliveries increased 59.7% to 17,700 vehicles.

On an overall European market which remained weak, the group delivered 3.2m vehicles (-1.7%) in the first 11 months of the year, of which 967,500 units (+0.4%) were delivered in Germany and 1.8m (-6.6%) in the rest of western Europe.
