A spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires plans for the start of production were “progressing according to plan.”
VW will produce the new model at its Slovakian plant in Bratislava and is investing EUR308m in the Bratislava facilities for the new model line which will be sold under VW, Skoda and Seat brands.
Last April the automaker said production could start at the beginning of 2011.
