Handelsblatt said that the company’s management wants to increase capacity for the Polo outside of Spain and that the most likely location would be Bratislava in Slovakia.
The Bratislava plant already produces the Polo, as well as the Touareg and Audi Q7.
Volkswagen is currently in a dispute with unions at its plant in Navarre, Spain, where the Polo is built, over labour contracts.
The Spanish plant currently employs 4,300 people and produces 1,160 cars per day, around 20% below its total capacity.
