Volkswagen group has reported a record 5m deliveries for the first nine months of this year, up 12.7% year on year. The automaker shipped 663,100 vehicles in September alone, up 7.9%.

Sales chief Christian Klingler said he anticipated the group would also set another new record for full-year deliveries. He added: “Even though a positive trend is expected for the automotive industry, we nevertheless remain cautious.”

He reported high growth in key markets such as China and the US, up 39% to 1.48m and up 21.2% to 267,500, respectively. Asia Pacific deliveries also increased, by 39.7%.

In Europe the group delivered 2.5m vehicles, up just over 1%, while the overall market contracted 2.3%. Russia also increased 27% with 92,300 deliveries.

VW’s home market continued to decline, however, down 27.5% due to the end of scrapping incentives. The group delivered 770,000 vehicles, down 19.3%.

The VW brand delivered 3.39m units, up 12.2%, with sales in India up sevenfold to 16,000. Audi was up 17.6% to 829,300 vehicles worldwide while Škoda grew 12.8% to 569,000 – recording its highest-ever monthly total in September of 75,800.

Seat delivered 259,100 vehicles, up 1.4%.
