Willis’ appointment coincides with the transfer of importing and distribution of Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen commercial vehicles in Ireland from O’Flaherty Holdings to Volkswagen AG.

Northern Ireland native Willis has extensive experience in the automotive business. Before his current role with Kia Europe, he headed the Volkswagen brand for seven years of continuous growth in the UK. He previously held various senior posts at BMW, Mazda, Toyota and Ford in the UK.

Ireland is an increasingly important market for VW. From January to July 2008, the group delivered 29,792 vehicles, taking a market share of 18.3%.

“For Volkswagen AG, the transfer of the import business demonstrates a clear commitment to the market in the Republic of Ireland, which [we plan] to develop further together with its retailers to the benefit of its customers,” the automaker said as it announced Willis’ appointment.
