Volkswagen Group has set a first-quarter record with almost 2m vehicles delivered between January and March.
March itself established a new high with 767,200 deliveries. The Q1 sales figure of 1.93m vehicles was a 13.7% from a year ago, outperforming a global market which has risen 8.1%.

Sales chief Christian Klingler, said: “Developments in the first quarter were excellent. Growth regions such as China, India or Russia again produced a strong performance. And delivery figures remained high in the mature markets in western Europe and North America as well.”
Group brands delivered 621,800 vehicles in the Asia Pacific region, an increase of 23% over last year, of which 548,500 were sold in China, up 20%.
There was also strong growth in India where sales of 28,100 represented a 256% rise. Deliveries also grew in South America with Q1 sales up 3% to 220,900.
In North America sales rose 18% to 143,900 and in Western Europe (excluding
Germany), sales of 532,000 vehicles were 6% ahead. At home in Germany the group sold 267,300 vehicles, up 5%.
Group brands also reported an increase of 30% in central and eastern Europe, delivering 109,200 vehicles in the region in the first quarter.
The Volkswagen passenger car brand recorded a strong first quarter delivering 1.23m vehicles, up 10%, Audi rose 18% worldwide delivering 312,600 cars, Skoda grew 21% to 217,100 and Seat delivered 90,800 vehicles globally during the first three months of the year, an increase of 3%.
VW commercial vehicles also saw significant first-quarter growth of 36%,
delivering 121,200 vehicles, up 7.5%.
