Volkswagen Group delivered 3.87m vehicles in the first five months of this year, up almost 6% on the same period a year ago. In May, the numbers were ahead almost 7% at 816,500.
Sales chief Christian Klingler said all group brands reported stable sales despite continuing difficult market conditions.

He added: “Meanwhile, developments on markets worldwide remain uneven and are characterised by continuing economic uncertainty, above all in western Europe. In contrast, the sales situation in China remains encouraging.”
Group brands delivered 1.53m on the overall European market from January to May, of which 799,100 were in western Europe (excluding Germany), down 3.2%. In Germany sales were down 4.2% at 473,100.
Deliveries in North America grew 13% to 360,000 and in South America sales dropped slightly (0.4%) to 375,400. Data for the Asia-Pacific region remained encouraging with 1.43m sales, up 16.4%, with China the largest single market with 1.28m deliveries, an increase of more than 18%.
In contrast, sales in India dropped to 41,300, down 20%.
Audi delivered 640,200 vehicles worldwide between January and May, up 6.7% from 600,200 in the same period a year ago. Porsche, which became a group brand in August 2012, delivered 67,300 vehicles in the first five months.
Skoda sold 377,200 vehicles, down 7% while Seat saw an 11% rise at 149,100.
Sales of commercial vehicles were slightly down by 0.3% at 219,900.
