The Volkswagen Group sold 7.85m vehicles in the first 10 months of this year, up 4.7% over the same period last year and putting the company on track for record annual sales of 9.5m.

“Following a good start to the fourth quarter, the Group expects record deliveries for the full year,” said group sales chief Christian Klingler. “Although uncertainty in Europe continues, the first signs that markets are stabilising are emerging.”

Sales in October were up 3.8% at 818,900.

A 1.8% fall in European sales in the first 10 months was offset by a 7.8% rise in North America and a 15.6% rise in Asia Pacific, including a 17.2% jump in China.

“We are seeing the first signs that the markets in France and Spain as well as Italy are stabilising,” said Klingler. “The delivery situation in China remains very encouraging, with some group brands recording significant increases there.”
