The Volkswagen group delivered 3.27m vehicles worldwide (+5.8%) in the first half of 2008, a record for the period. Worldwide deliveries in June also reached a new marker: up 2.4% year on year to 573,000.

In China, H1 sales rose 23.2% to 531,600. The group also achieved strong growth in Brazil, up 21.8% to 316,000, and central and eastern Europe (+18.7% to 282,000). India sales were up 69.2% to 10,400 vehicles, Russia up 63.3% to 59,000 and Ukraine up 46.9% to 25,900.


Europe sales rose 1.3% (the market overall grew about 4%, according to Ford’s H1 results last week) to 1.84m of which 534,000 (+3.7%) were delivered in Germany. In western Europe (excluding Germany), where the market remained generally weak, VW delivered 1.07m vehicles (-3.6%).


Volkswagen cars, the group’s highest volume brand, delivered 1.9m vehicles (+5.8%) worldwide in the first half of the year. Audi sales rose 1.4% to 516,000 and Skoda was up 17.9% to 367,000 vehicles. Seat sales were off 7.5% to 206,000 and 264,000 VW commercial vehicles were sold (+12.9%).
