Volkswagen passenger cars have increased deliveries this year to the end of August by 11.5% over the same period a year ago to 3.72m vehicles.
Sales for the brand rose almost 20% in August to 466,300. Board sales chief Christian Klingler said: “The brand enjoyed growth in August, some of it strong, particularly outside Europe. However, the ongoing difficult market environment in Western Europe continues to demand our undivided attention.”

In Europe VW has handed over 1.15m vehicles in the period to August, up 2% with strong growth in Central and Eastern Europe, where deliveries were up 36.6% to 177,900 units.
In Russia, deliveries increased to 108,900 from 66,900.
In Asia-Pacific, the brand grew deliveries 15.8% to 1.46m of which 1.32m were sold in China. The brand also performed very well in North America, up 26% to 404,000.
