Volkswagen’s New Beetle has been given its first minor facelift since launch in 1998. The revamped model line goes on sale around the world in the next few months, reaching dealers at about the same time Chrysler rolls out revamped versions of its retro-look rival, the PT Cruiser.

The updated Beetle has revised bumpers and wheel arches, with sharper edges than before, plus subtly restyled headlights and front indicators, and tail lights with white circles inside the red circles. The ‘VW’ emblems have also been modified at the front and rear.


In addition, a new range of colours and alloy wheels will be available, complemented by new fabrics for the interior. Chrome adorns the air vents and surrounds the instruments.


Engines and transmissions are mostly carried over though the European-specification 1.9-litre TDI diesel has been slightly uprated from 102 to 105PS.
