The new model uses parts from the Golf and Passat and will be called Concept A when it is shown. The body is not the final design, that will be shown at the Frankfurt motor show before the car goes on sale at the end of 2007.
The new model will be built by Auto 5000 GmbH, Volkswagen’s subsidiary in Wolfsburg that currently builds the Touran.
Volkswagen is struggling to build cars in Germany at a low enough cost for export to the USA, a key market for the new SUV.
