Last autumn, as part of its wage agreement with unions and a return to a full (33-hour) working week, the company agreed to increase its capacity at the plant by 40,000 units by 2009 to produce an additional vehicle.
VW is also planning a line for niche vehicle manufacture through Volkswagen Individual from the middle of 2008.
Planning for the additional vehicle has already starts and will affect the body shop in hall three and assembly in hall 12.
Part of the agreement with workers last year was that Wolfsburg’s full 460,000 units capacity would be fully utilised. Other German plants also received production guarantees.
