Volkswagen Group sales worldwide from January to July 2013 rose by 5.1% year on year to 5.45m. July sales were up 3.2% to 757,700.

Sales chief Christian Klinger said: “…conditions on some markets were at times extremely challenging.”

Europe sales slipped 3.1% to 2.16m. North America sales increased 11.9% to 512,600 with the US up 10.1% to 356,800.

Asia Pacific sales were up 16.6% to 2m with China up 18.5% to 1.79 but India down 18.4% to 56,600.

Volkswagen brand car sales rose 3.7% to 3.38m worldwide in the first seven months.
