Volkswagen
has turned its back on the vehicle industry’s own e-commerce venture Covisint
and instead extended an exisiting deal with EDS company eBreviate.

The Volkswagen group will conduct supplier car part auctions on-line using
eBreviate’s e-sourcing software.

VW’s decision has been seen in some quarters as a slight against Covisint,
founded by Ford, General Motors and DaimlerChrysler and since joined by Renault
and Nissan.

But Covisint’s vice president of corporate communications Dan Jankowski
responded that the announcement was more likely to disappoint suppliers.

"It’s a big industry. Volkswagen is one company," Jankowski said
in an interview with Associated Press.
