Volkswagen has also reached agreement with Continental Automotive Systems and ZF Friedrichshafen to produce a hybrid drive module – consisting of an electric drive including the power electronics.

The Continental division will be responsible for the power electronics, while ZF Friedrichshafen will supply the electric motor, clutch and the dual-mass flywheel.

Continental Automotive Systems president Karl-Thomas Neumann said: “[The company] sees hybrid drives as the right approach to a mobility developing away from internal combustion engines and the consumption of fossil fuels toward environmentally safe and dynamic driving.”

The power electronics system in hybrid vehicles implements commands such as electric driving, boost and regenerative braking in conjunction with the electric motor and battery.
