According to the Handelsblatt newspaper, the VDA is planning a board meeting to decide on a new president in the hope that a successor to Bernd Gottschalk can be found before Easter.
Dpa-AFX suggests that candidates currently in the running include Mercedes-Benz boss, Jürgen Hubbert, possibly as an interim president until the Frankfurt motor show in September. Other candidates are reportedly BMW’s Joachim Milberg, and Ford’s Wolfgang Schneider.
In addition, former BMW boss Helmut Panke, and former VW Group CEO, Bernd Pischetsrieder have been mooted. However the newspaper concludes that it is probable that the VDA will chose a candidate without a history in the automotive industry.
