There have been detail styling changes front and rear including a revised headlight arrangement featuring LED technology and clear lenses, and a new style of front valance. The vertical struts on the front spoiler have been repositioned to accommodate a different shape of air intake for the car and the kidney grille is larger compared to the outgoing model.
At the rear, the lower reflectors have been optically enhanced as part of a redesigned rear bumper to emphasise the wide track, while a third high level brake light now sits on the boot lid lip for improved safety. There are also new alloy wheel designs in 17-, 18- and 19-inch sizes.
Inside, there are new materials and colours, plus changes to the iDrive controller, air conditioning and audio system controls and interior trim and upholstery in new colours and leather upholstery with ‘SunReflective’ technology for the convertible.
The top 4.8-litre V8 has been uprated and there is a new lean burn three-litre straight-six plus the adoption of ‘EfficientDynamics’ across the range with brake energy regeneration, on-demand control and operation of the engine’s ancillary units, steering system with ‘Varioserv’ steering assistance pump, heat-optimised final drive reducing frictional losses, and gearshift point indicator.
Fuel consumption by V8 models is reduced by up to 5% (eight-cylinder) and 15% for the sixes. A twin-turbo diesel six is also offered and a new six-speed automatic transmission becomes available.
This has a new electronic gear selector lever while the iDrive Control is more flexible thanks to eight programmable ‘favourite’ buttons.
Adaptive headlights and variable light distribution are also now available along with active cruise control incorporating an automatic brake application function, active cruise control with stop & go function to maintain distances in flowing traffic and when driving dead slow, lane departure warning with vibration signal on the steering wheel, head-up display, night vision and high-beam assistant, navigation system with full-word voice entry and the Individual-branded high-end audio system.
