General Motors continues to tighten its grip on its German subsidiary Opel with the expected appointment of United Auto Workers (UAW) president Bob King to the supervisory board next month, according to Handelsblatt.
Last week GM announced that restructuring specialist Thomas Sedran would join Opel in April to take charge of a new operations, business development and corporate strategy division. Sedran was managing director at Michigan-based turnaround firm AlixPartners and has been a consultant to Opel since 2009.

Last month, GM appointed global product development chief Mary Barra to Opel’s supervisory board and, at the end of November, GM’s vice chairman Stephen Girsky became Opel’s board chairman. Simultaneously, GM CFO Daniel Ammann and Timothy Lee, president of GM’s international operations, also joined the board.
