This is according to Toyota Deutschland’s managing director, Lothar Feuser, interviewed by Automobilwoche.

Toyota has been losing sales in Germany but to date it has managed to maintain its share. Next year dealers are, however, concerned that there will be little room for volume improvement given that there are gaps in Toyota’s line-up as it awaits new models.

The main gap is an awaited replacement for the Avensis and niche models that attract higher margins. In 2005 Toyota Deutschland took five models out of the model programme including the MR2. Such models did not account for high volumes but dealers could earn good margins, according to Automobilwoche.

Feuser said that eight new models would be launched in 2009 which would replace existing models or occupy new segments.
