The top-specification “Titanium” model has proven the most popular version of Ford Europe’s new S-Max ‘people mover’ (aka a crossover), production of which began in Belgium last April.

Where optional, around half of buyers also are specifying the seven-seat configuration (five chairs are standard). More than 30% of buyers are also ordering newly available items such as the skyline roof and Bluetooth connectivity.


The automaker claims its new model is bringing “thousands” of new customers to the Ford brand – three months after launch in its initial markets across Europe, almost 9,000 have been delivered and over 30,000 orders received.


Over half of buyers are new to the Ford brand, according to the automaker’s research.


The model has been well received by the enthusiast press in the UK and Europe, just-auto has noted, with many writers praising its styling, build quality, practicality and sporty driving characteristics.


“We are delighted with the response to the new S-Max from customers and the media,” said Ford of Europe sales and marketing head Stephen Odell. “This confirms our belief that customers want innovative solutions to their driving needs. With 5+2 seats, a wide choice of engines and expressive styling, the S-Max offers motorists a fresh approach that is proving hugely popular.”


The model was developed in-house and is built only at Ford’s Genk plant alongside the redesigned, larger sister model, the Galaxy. The previous Galaxy was developed in a joint venture with Volkswagen and built in Portugal.
