ThyssenKrupp’s automotive unit is close to finalising agreements to buy the Kaiserslautern components plant of Adam Opel and a bigger stake in Finnish car parts company Valmet, according to a report in Financial Times Deutschland.

Opel is planning to dispose of a number of its European components operations. ThyssenKrupp Automotive is interested in the stamping plant in Kaiserslautern and Benteler has been negotiating the acquisition of the chassis components plants in Zaragoza and Bochum.

ThyssenKrupp has been relatively active in automotive M&A activity in recent years, with a number of negotiations involving parts units owned by vehicle makers. Earlier this year it was reportedly in talks with DaimlerChrysler over the acquisition of a majority stake in DC’s steering gear unit MB Lenkungen GmbH.
