There is still no decision on whether Germany will provide state to General Motors’ European Opel operation following a high level committee meeting yesterday.

Officials said that the meeting did not agree on any recommendations for or against granting aid.

However, Matthias Machnig, economy minister from Thuringia – one of the states where Opel sites has a plant- accused Economy Minister Rainer Bruederle of stalling a decision for political reasons until after a key state election in May.

Any decision on state aid is likely to be made by senior members of the government, in conjunction with the states affected by Opel’s restructuring.
