The Czech automaker’s board member for production and logistics, Horst Mühl, told Automotive News Europe (ANE) that his company would build a new facility near its Vrchlabi plant to produce between 200,000 and 250,000 units a year.

Volkswagen will decide where to build the car in the next three to four months. The main competition to Skoda’s bid comes from VW’s Spanish plant in Pamplona, according to ANE sources.

The car will also be built in a low-cost market form in Russia and India, meaning that Volkswagen could produce up to 500,000 units a year. There will also be Seat- and Skoda-badged versions.

Western European versions will be sold as up-market city cars while in India, and other developing markets, it will be sold as a low-cost model.
