The alliance between Renault and Nissan would not mount a hostile takeover bid for General Motors should talks on a three-way tie-up among the car makers fail, Carlos Ghosn reportedly told a German newspaper.

“If only one partner desires co-operation, it will not come to pass,” Renault and Nissan CEO Ghosn told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in an interview, according to Reuters.
“This is very clear between (GM CEO) Rick (Wagoner) and me. And you can be certain that we will not do anything hostile against GM.”
Ghosn reportedly said he did not envision meeting Wagoner again during the 90-day review period until mid-October that the companies have set to determine the benefits of any alliance.
“There are no open questions between Rick and me. Each of us has given the job to experts and they have to find out if an alliance makes sense or not,” Ghosn said, according to the news agency.
He reportedly said GM could help his alliance grow more quickly and increase profitability, but added it was “premature” to talk about the possibility for Renault and Nissan to take an equity stake in GM.
