“Sales of the Panamera have really taken off. We have already secured over 9,000 orders,” chief executive Michael Macht told Reuters.

The model mix showed greater demand for the higher-margin derivatives, which first went on sale three months ago.

The all-wheel drive Panamera 4S, which retails in Germany from EUR102,251 (US$149,900) including tax, accounted for 44% of orders, while another 36% were booked for the high-performance turbo version costing around another EUR30,000. The base S version accounted for the remaining 20%.

On Monday, the 10,000th Panamera left the assembly line at Porsche’s Leipzig assembly plant. The sportscar maker plans to build an average 20,000 across the vehicle’s life cycle.
