Wiedeking made his comments to the Zeit newspaper as he responded to concerns raised by workers at the Neckarsulm plant that the R8 sports car, and other performance models produced there, might be cut because they compete directly with Porsche models.
The Porsche chief said it was natural that workers might be concerned, but that each brand has its own profile.
“The R8 is good for the Audi brand,” said Wiedeking, and “ I would be mad to interfere with such a successful model.”
Wiedeking added: “Porsche has a major interest in ensuring that all brands in the new alliance are successful.”
