“We are fully on schedule with work on the new production hall, logistics centre and the extension of the assembly hall,” said Porsche Leipzig managing director Siegfried Bülow. The factory extension is due to be finished by end-2008.

A production hall covering around 25,000 square metres and a logistics centre with an area of 23,500 square metres are being constructed for production of the Panamera, which will be launched in 2009.

The existing assembly hall will also be expanded to include a test and analysis centre and a training workshop.

Piles are currently already being put in place to improve the load capacity of the new halls. The next stage of building work will involve construction of the building shell and steel framework along with work on the roof of the assembly hall and the logistics centre, with installation of the production facilities set to follow during the course of 2008.

All construction work will be implemented in parallel with ongoing production activities and will have no adverse effect on day-to-day operations, Porsche said.

The sports car manufacturer is investing EUR120m in the new production facilities and a further EUR30m in the logistics centre.

Production of the new sports coupé will create 600 new jobs at Leipzig. The first positions, which are being advertised on the internet, have already been filled. However, the vast majority of the new jobs will not be advertised until 2008.
